Garden Lights

Garden lights can be used to serve a variety of decorative and functional purposes. Before you purchase any lighting, you’ll want to determine what purpose you want the lighting to serve. Lights in gardens are used for safety reasons, decorative reasons, or to allow gardeners to entertain guests in their garden area after the sun goes down.

For safety and security purposes, you will want to choose bright garden lights that keep the yard very well lit. A popular choice is motion lights, which will only turn on when the sensors detect movement. For decorative purposes, there are literally hundreds of designs and illumination levels to choose from. Mushroom lights (also known as scoop lights) and Tiered lights are mounted on stakes or posts. These lights are ideal to light up a path and also look nice during the daytime.

To highlight the colors and assortment of flowers in your garden, uplights, downlights, and sconce lights are ideal. These types of garden lights are bright and are designed to show off architecture and landscaping. Recessed lights are usually embedded into wooden benches, walls or patio’s, so they are hidden during the daytime, but provide a nice illumination at night. They usually light from the floor up.

For entertaining guests, garden lamps work nicely as well as all of the previously mentioned garden lights. Mushroom and Tiered lights aren’t as bright, so they would not be ideal if you are serving dinner or playing games in the garden area. Solar garden lights are another environmentally friendly option, but they won’t work if you don’t have clear skies during the day.
